Steps, Shots and Silence: Sound and Foley in Docs | Berlinale Talents 2019

This journey into the fabulous world of sound comes with a twist: rather than venture into the rabbit-hole of fiction, sound designer Peter Albrechtsen and foley artist Heikki Kossi draw us into the fabricated soundscapes of documentary films, revealing the intricacies of adding realism to reality. Equipped with a collection of recorded sounds and an array of props brought down from the Finnish fjords, Peter and Heikki show the audience how they create noises that slip into the folds of documentaries unnoticed and therefore into our sense of reality. But what mistakes occur most frequently in this game of acoustic make-believe?
