There’s hardly a better way to conclude the Talents week than in the presence of lauded writer-director Nadav Lapid, who joins us to reflect upon the fundamental questions that recur in his work. Nadav, invited with his new film « Synonymes » to the 2019 Berlinale Competition, will discuss his taste for characters animated by apparent contradictions which are far from unrelated to the complexity and dichotomies of modern-day Israel. The notion of a moral highground loses its currency in his fictions and makes talking simply of ‘mistakes’ somewhat unsatisfactory. Showing excerpts from his latest and semi-autobiographical film, he discusses how the existence of contradictions in life is a driving force for his stories which, to a certain degree, cannot be read ‘wrongly.’ Don’t miss this final session as we push the notion of ‘mistakes’ to its limits.
