Curious Choices: The End of Mistakes | Berlinale Talents 2019
There’s hardly a better way to conclude the Talents week than in the presence of lauded writer-director Nadav Lapid, who joins us to reflect upon the fundamental questions that recur in his work. Nadav, invited with his new film “Synonymes” to the 2019 Berlinale Competition, will discuss his taste for characters animated by apparent contradictions which are far from unrelated to the complexity and dichotomies of modern-day Israel. The notion of a moral highground loses its currency in his fictions and makes talking simply of ‘mistakes’ somewhat unsatisfactory. Showing excerpts from his latest and semi-autobiographical film, he discusses how the existence of contradictions in life is a driving force for his stories which, to a certain degree, cannot be read ‘wrongly.’ Don’t miss this final session as we push the notion of ‘mistakes’ to its limits.
