Olivia Wilde and Laura Kosann | 2021 Nicholl Conversations

Olivia Wilde chats with Laura Kosann about the screenwriting process and Laura’s 2021 Nicholl winning script “The Ideal Woman” (logline below).

“The Ideal Woman”: Set in American suburbia during the Cuban Missile Crisis: A 1960’s ex-actress and housewife finds her house-of-cards world begin to tumble as she continues to be pitted against two identities.

Laura Kosann is a writer and director passionate about telling dynamic, female-driven stories with a literary quality. Most recently, she has been promoted twice on The Black List for her screenplay “Veo Veo A Family.” Laura was also a finalist in the Imagine Impact X Netflix competition in 2020 for her thriller concept “Dear Senator.” Prior to that, she wrote, directed and produced the ultra-low SAG budget indie film “The Social Ones.” The movie won the Audience Award for Best Comedy at Cinequest Film Festival.

Since she was young, Laura has always played out movies in her head; creating scenes, modifying them then living inside them for awhile. This process of deep immersion became her writing process. Laura’s early influences in entertainment began with interning at an array of places including The Public Theater’s Delacorte Theater and Oscilloscope Pictures. She went on to write and produce at Showtime Network. Soon after, she co-founded the popular online magazine The New Potato, for which she created all digital content, as well as wrote and directed video shorts.
