May June July, Bicentenario, The red filter is withdrawn, Upheaval | Berlinale Meets | February 2021

Forum Expanded co-curator Uli Ziemons met with Kevin Jerome Everson, Pablo Alvarez Mesa, Minjung Kim and Welket Bungué, directors of “May June July”, “Bicentenario”, “The red filter is withdrawn” and “Upheaval”. Screening in the 2021 Forum Expanded programme.

About the films:
May June July: The months of May, June, and July are represented with peonies, fireflies, and the year 2020. A rollerblader (Jahleel Gardner) traverses Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington D.C.

Bicentenario: Two hundred years after Simon Bolivar’s liberation campaign in Colombia, Bicentenario retraces Bolivar’s journey across the country, searching for his ghost still present in the contested territory.

The red filter is withdrawn: Caves and bunkers on Jeju Island are turned into camera lenses and projection screens, connecting the past and present of a place that holds memories of colonialism and massacre.

Upheaval: Mudança is an encounter between the artist Welket Bungué and the Portuguese parliamentary politician Joacine Katar Moreira. Here they question the essence of their crafts, making an unexpected paradigm of imminent revolution resound.
