What does sustainability mean to the film industry? While filmmakers have begun adopting greener production practices, the question of what sustainability on a social level might look like remains largely unanswered. Indeed, much remains to be done when it comes to equality and inclusiveness. But here as in many other domains, the Berlinale Talents participants are a step ahead of the game: three Talents alumni talk about their initiatives in the presence of socially engaged actor Zazie Beetz and producer Jonas Weydemann, the two jury members who selected them to become the 2022 Talents Footprints – Mastercard Enablement Programme fellows. Their pragmatic proposals for change come in the form of three different approaches to work on film sets and beyond. But what unites them is a commitment to the creation of a more sustainable society, an endeavour worthy of our utmost attention.
