Haunting Sounds and Deafening Silences with Rana Reid
Following the premiere of her latest work on Sebastián Lelio’s “La Ola” in Cannes at the weekend, we’re sharing the recording from our incredible session with sound designer Rana Eid in February.
Opening the talk with a sound installation she created last summer during the bombing of her hometown Beirut, the ensuing conversation started with her very first sound recordings in 1982, as a six year old trying to cope with the ongoing trauma of war, to prove her own and her parents continued existence.
From the effects of those experiences, right through to her work on Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s “Hot Milk” which premiered at the Berlinale, her favourite things about the profession, the best ways to collaborate, and much more, we were treated to a detailed, open and honest discussion between Rana and Rabih El Khoury about the importance of sound, and of listening.
