NEW JERSEY — James Lipton, Dean of the Actors Studio and Host of the Bravo TV show, Inside the Actors Studio, died today at the age of 93. Today, we take a look back at his appearance on One-on-One with Steve Adubato.
James Lipton was born in Detroit in 1926. He was first known for his role as Dan Reid, nephew of the Lone Ranger, and later starred for over ten years on the soap opera, Guiding Light. Besides acting, Lipton also studied dance and choreographed a ballet for the American Ballet Theatre.
In the early 1990s, Lipton arranged for the Actors Studio to join The New School to create the Actors Studio Drama School. Within the drama school, he created a “master class” where the most respected and famous actors, writers, and directors would be interviewed by himself and his students, called Inside the Actors Studio. A television show of the same name debuted on Bravo in 1994, and Lipton produced, wrote and hosted the production until he retired in 2018.
